Webtoon Partners with Saturday AM Brand to Publish Comic Series in Vertical-Scroll Format This Fall

WEBTOON Entertainment announced on Wednesday a new partnership with Saturday AM, the inclusive comics brand known for championing BIPOC creators. The collaboration will bring a slate of Saturday AM's top series to WEBTOON's English-language platform beginning this fall. The first wave of vertically reformatted titles includes Clock Striker, Apple Black, and Hammer. Future additions include Massive Multiplayer World of Ghosts, Titan King, and Gunhild.Founded in 2013 by Frederick L. Jones, Saturday AM has had its works published in five languages across nearly 40 countries. "As a Black man, I've long believed manga thrives when it reflects the world around us—just like hip-hop," said Jones. "Partnering with WEBTOON allows us to expand that mission."WEBTOON's Head of U.S. Content, Ryan Lee, added, "Saturday AM has opened doors for a new generation of creators. We're proud to support their work and bring even more inclusive stories to global audiences."Launch dates for each series will be announced at a later date.WEBTOON has also recently partnered with IDW Publishing to bring several of the publisher's popular titles to its English-language platform. In addition, WEBTOON recently added Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist manga on May 7. The service also announced a partnership with Dark Horse Comics earlier this month to bring a slate of popular IPs — including Cyberpunk 2077, Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins, The Witcher, The Legend of Korra, and Plants vs. Zombies™ — to its English-language platform in vertical-scroll format. The titles will launch on the service in the second half of this year.Source: WEBTOON Entertainment's press release
