Live-Action 5 Centimeters Per Second Film Unveils Teaser, More Cast, Composer

The official website for the live-action film of Makoto Shinkai's 5 Centimeters Per Second anime film unveiled a teaser trailer, second teaser visual, more cast members, and the composer Ayatake Ezaki (musical contributor on BELLE, Muteking the Dancing Hero) on Friday. The 30-second teaser debuts the first footage to be made public. The teaser features the melody of Tenmon's song "Omoide wa Tōku ni Hibi" from the original anime — as a cover performed by Ezaki specifically for this teaser. The tagline on the new visual reads, "Takaki-kun. I hope we can view the cherry blossoms again next year."Haruto Ueda and Noa Shiroyama play the main lead characters Takaki and Akari, respectively, when they were children.SixTONES member Hokuto Matsumura (Suzume's Sōta Munakata) stars in the live-action film.Spoon is producing the film, and TOHO will distribute. Yoshiyuki Okuyama is directing, and Ayako Suzuki is writing the script.The film will open in theaters on October 10. The film is split into three individual segments. Crunchyroll previously released the anime on DVD in 2011 with the help of Bandai Entertainment. Discotek later released a reissue of that version with new cover art. GKIDS later acquired the license in 2022 and released the film on Blu-ray Disc with Shout! Factory. Shinkai directed, wrote, and storyboarded the anime film, and was also the sound director, producer, and art director.
